Biography: Makoto was born in Radomsko, Poland to a Polish-French-Norwegian father and a Japanese-Korean mother. His parents met when his mother was studying ballet at the Beijing International Arts School and his father was a student teacher teaching acrobatics there. They dated throughout their schooling and moved to Makoto’s father’s hometown of Radomsko after graduating – getting married a couple years after the move. His parents decided to join a traveling circus to make use of their schooling and skills.

Makoto is the youngest of six siblings – he has four older brothers and two older sisters – and is the fourth child to follow in his parents footsteps and learn acrobatics and dance (two of his older siblings left to become a doctor and professional soccer player). He began helping out around the circus when he was six and started to learn acrobatics from his father at the age of nine. Since then he’s performed with his parents and siblings in a family act numerous times.

When he was thirteen, he got bored of the circus life and decided – with his parent’s consent – to move to Japan to stay with his mother’s relatives and experience another part of his heritage. Shortly after moving to Japan, Makoto heard about the Commission of Counter Ghoul and decided to join the organization to learn more about them and about ghouls.

Because he doesn’t have a particular grudge or vendetta towards ghouls – like so many of his colleagues – he was often ridiculed and questioned because his “reason” for joining “offended” many of his classmates. But he didn’t let their comments get to him and continued his education at the CCG.

Now he’s a recent graduate of the CCG and is working in the field for the first time. Oh, and he’s never encountered a ghoul before.

Personality: The first thing people notice about Makoto is that he’s quite easy-going and free-spirited. Nothing really fazes him and he doesn’t get riled up that easily. He’s very open-minded and up to trying new things provided it doesn’t get him in trouble with his grandparents. Despite his appearance and easy-going manner, Makoto is polite and respectful to his superiors and elders – unless it comes to his appearance then he’ll diplomatically defend his fashion choices.

However, Makoto has been told on multiple occasions that he can be a bit flaky when it comes to things because he likes starting a bunch of projects but doesn’t finish most of them – though he will finish any important assignments. He can also be a bit lazy at times when it comes to doing things he doesn’t want to do but with enough prodding and nagging – or threatening to tell his grandparents – he’ll get his butt into gear. He’s also not really used to responsibility as he’s the youngest of his family and he can’t really survive without someone checking in on him once a day (“Did you remember to eat breakfast? Did you buy your bus pass? Is your apartment clean? Are you making sure to buy things you need like soap and food? Did you change your underwear?”).

Likes:

• Cats – he has four of them in his apartment
  
• Performing acrobats – he’s also loved performing for people
  
• Family – the most important thing in anyone’s life
  
• Independence – but he can’t manage himself without help
  
• Video games – especially RPGs
  
• Nature – growing up in a rural part of Poland and travelling so much gave him an appreciation of nature
  
• Pierogi – a traditional Polish dish that can have anything inside of it and is pretty much the only “real” food he can make
  
• Instant ramen – a staple in his kitchen and diet
  

Dislikes

• Cold – despite living his Poland for most of his life, he absolutely hates the cold
  
• Narrow-minded people – he can’t understand why they aren’t more open
  
• Fish – says it tastes too salty
  
• Big cities – not enough nature and he only moved to Tokyo because he has family there

• Disappointing his family
  
• Not living a “full” life – he wants to be able to look back at the end of it all and say that he’s happy
